Prague, 1938. As nine year old Anna Braun witnesses the collapse of her parents' marriage Nazi Germany invades Czechoslovakia. A Far Away Country tells the story of these traumatic events and the effect they have on Anna and her family.
The author, Ruth Boswell, left Czechoslovakia herself at the age of nine. A Far Away Country is based on her memories and extensive research into the period.
It is illustrated with eleven line drawings by Angela Barrett who we also worked with on our editions of The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde and A Christmas Carol.
There are three states: the Numbered Edition is full bound in red book-cloth with a foil-blocked spine and a label tipped onto the front board; the Roman Edition has been hand-coloured by Angela Barrett and is full bound in leather in three colours and comes in a slipcase; and the Artist's Edition which is as the Roman Edition and comes in a solander box with one of Angela Barrett's original drawings for the book in a portfolio.
The size of the books is 216 x 130 mm and there are 204 pages.

A slipcase covered in the same book cloth as the binding is available as an extra.

Our limited editions of Kenneth Grahame's great story are illustrated with over eighty brush-and-ink drawings by Judy White. She writes in her afterword:
'As I re-read the book I discovered that it is very funny, which had gone over my head as a child. Also, the main characters have such terrific personalities – they are robust little animals, not at all childish or sentimental. If I concentrated on these two things, I could see how to do my own take on the book.'
We are have made three versions: The Lettered Edition, which is hand-coloured by Judy on twenty-five pages; The Numbered Edition, hand-coloured on thirteen pages; and the Standard Edition which is not coloured. The Numbered Edition sold out on pre-order and so is no longer available.
