Our edition of A Christmas Carol is illustrated by Angela Barrett who is 'among the most prominent and best known British picture book illustrators over the last three decades.'
She has made twenty-five pen and ink drawings which we've printed from line blocks. Eleven of them are hand coloured in the special edition.
'I tried to be original,' she writes in her afterword, 'while I suspected that Dickens' story is akin to Christmas itself, in that it is not required to be original, or, worse still, ironic.'
We've also included by comprehensive notes on the text by Michael Slater, Emeritus Professor of Victorian Literature at Birkbeck College, University of London.
